Summer Blackout

Mon Jul 26, 2010, 11:50 AM
It's summer, and I've lost interest in online social networking for the moment. I'm busy spending my free time with my new puppy, reconnecting with my totally awesome cousin, seeing lots of movies, and obsessively watching TV shows on Netflix. Yep, that's about it.

Despicable Me and Inception are awesome. You should all go see them. Now.

I'm also thinking about getting a new computer soon. I have my eye on Dell's Stuido XPS 16. Anyone know anything about it? It looks super nice, and our family has always had great luck with Dell.

I know the feeling about the social networking as you might have noticed lol.

Netflicks is awsome.

Inception was my fav of the two though they were both good.

As for the laptop idk, i'm looking at building a desk top.

lol yeah. I just don't find talking to people I'll probably never meet to be very rewarding any more. I'd rather hang out with people in person.

Indeed it is.

Building a desktop, huh? That's sweet. What are you looking to put in it spec wise?

Not too sure yet, at least a 2T hard drive, other then that I haven't been working so it's been on the back burner lol

lol let's see . . . i7 processer, 8GBs of RAM, 1GB graphic card, 2TB hard drive, blu ray player. I'd actually go with a solid state drive, but I don't need much space.

I hope you're having an awesome summer! :D And if you're looking for a computer, Dell's aren't good. My mom has a Dell laptop, and it is the most finicky computer I've ever used. I know a lot of other people who don't like Dells either, including my computer nerd friend. I don't know anything about that specific model, though. But, if you're family's had good luck with them, go for it ;)

Yeah, that's what a lot of people say, but we've had *counts* six Dells without a single problem. If I don't end up with another Mac, I'll probably get a Sony. They tend to get good reviews. I want a Mac, though, but they're highly overpriced. *sighs*

hmm... well, if you're family's never had any problems, I say go for it ;) I just know several people who've had them, and they've had a lot of issues. Good luck in your search, though! :D

Inception was one of those rare films I was really looking forward to, and it was so much better than I expected. I'm going to see it again tomorrow, I have a few theories about the film I need to test :D

As for the computer I usually ask my brother because he's good with computers - after all that's his job so he takes care of that. My advice find someone who gets these things and bug him/her to help you. :-)

Hehe, cool. I have yet to see it a second time, but I want to!

Yeah, well I'm the resident computer expert among most of my family and friends. :P I just don't keep up with PCs very well.

I have an HP desktop, haha. I really like it. All I know of Dell is that I've been told customer service is one of the bigger selling points but it's not that good.

Inception was definitely a great movie. It might be the only movie I watch...

Don't buy Dell, they tend to cut corners where you REALLY don't want them to cut corners. I've seen more dells with hardware problems than with software problems - which is really, really, really bass ackwards.

My suggestion is to build it yourself for a desktop, it isn't very hard and there are huge communities set up to help you ( I.E. www.pcper.com ) and googling 'how to assemble a PC' yields some pretty awesome video tutorials, second choice is, barring you buying a custom build system assembled by someone else, to make sure you get the 3 ( or if offered 5 ) year extended warranty and keep any files you can't afford to lose in an online storage center.

For laptops, I love Asus brand. You get a TON of bang for your buck from Asus, and they have some of the lowest failure rate projections out of all laptop brands. [link] k-failure-rate-is-20-higher-than-laptop-failure-rate/ Typically you have to order them from places like newegg or amazon.com, and of course with even the best manufacturer having a >10% failure rate, it's good to get the highest extended warranty possible.

Coincidentally, desktop failure rates for the brands you see there that manufacture desktops and laptops are quite similar, but I would bump Dell up as second to HP. They REALLY cut corners with their hardware in a sick, twisted, unholy way.

I actually know how to build a computer, but I can't part with a laptop. Not a fan of HP. I've head Toshiba and Sony are good. Seriously, why does the world need so many computer companies all making basically the same thing?

Because someone always says "I can do better!" or "I can lie better."

I loved both of those movies. I'm contemplating going to see Inception again, because I enjoyed it that much.
